Holiday Spirit, Anna Bouton

Christmas is my favorite time of year. I love decorating the tree and I love how it lights up the room. I really liked this assignment mostly because it got me very excited for Christmas day. Drinking hot chocolate by the fire and the Christmas tree is so relaxing. Looking outside the window and seeing snow makes me really want to have a white Christmas.

"Food" Anna

I was sitting with my friend in the lodge at the Sunday River ski resort on a freezing cold day. It was below zero when we decided to take a break inside. The cinnamon taste and warmth quickly warmed us up. The size of this cinnamon bun is ridiculous, it's much bigger than the size of my hand.

This is my creative interpretation of David Hockney's life and career.

Out of the Window, Anna Bouton

Around my house is very modern. I think that this picture in my kitchen is really fun and I wanted to get a shot in a different perspective. I knelt down on the ground and took this quickly moving the camera. I had the camera on a certain setting that made the picture take quickly. I actually did not mean to take this photo like this. I thought that it was going to come out clear, but I actually like this so much better because the movement in this picture makes it unique.

Spooky Scary Image

Taking this photo made me feel slightly uncomfortable. I did not like having to walk through this grave yard- especially on Halloween. I felt slightly creeped out and anxious to get out of there. Personally, I did not really enjoy this assignment.

While I was taking this photo I felt really sad. Being at the mountain with no snow made me miss spending every weekend on snow. I am so excited for ski season. I loved visiting Sunday River, but I miss it.

Crew has been a huge part of my life this Fall. I love this picture because I remember taking this moment so well. Our team was rowing at full pressure and I yelled to stop. I took out my phone on the water and turned around to take this beautiful shot. Being in the middle of the ocean in this thin boat is such a fun feeling.

Portraits

As I was photographing Lilly, I was playing with light and eye contact. In a couple of photos, I had her look directly at the camera, and in others look away. This picture specifically, shows her happy personality. She is laughing and I love the fact that the light is right on her face and her head is turned away.
When taking this photo, I was incorporating the "Rule of Thirds." Lilly is not directly in the center of the shot which pulls the whole picture together. I also think that the light is really unique in this photo. The light off of her hair is so pretty. Again, in this photo I had Lilly look away from the camera. It's almost like I caught her off guard. Personally, I really like this photo.

David Hockney Collages

The Cubist Period occurred in the 20th century. Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque were credited with this style in 1907 and 1914. The Cubist Artwork was basically created abstracted and three dimensional shapes on a two dimensional surface. A cubist artist would usually show more than one view at a time.

David Hockney is an artist. He has done many different kinds of work and many different media and styles. For instance, he is a painter, photographer, designer, and many more. He was known to be one of the most famous artists of his time. I notice that he shows all of the sides of one object on a two dimensional page. He might have been influenced by other artists like Picasso.

Annie Leibovitz has a very unique style. She really captures how the person is feeling in her portraits by their expressions. Annie does not use a lot of bright colors in any of her portraits.
Arnold Newman has a very serious style. Most of his photos only use black and white. The wire in the background is used as a prop and the man is not making eye contact with the photo.

Most of Richard Avedon's photographs are very random. For instance, what is this woman doing with these elephants in this dress? His photographs make me think. She is not making eye contact and she is also using the elephants as a prop in the photo.

1. Series of shots- Multiple shots that look alike of the same person maybe with a different expression or different pose in each photo.
2. Looking within the frame- There are several objects or people within the photograph. People may be making eye contact with other people or other objects.
3. Play with eye contact- Playing with eye contact means the person does not have to be looking directly at the camera.
4. Alter your perspective- Altering your perspective is a common way of talking a portrait. The photographer can be above or below the person posing at the camera.
5. Introduce a prop- Introducing a prop can give the photograph a lot of meaning. It also makes this look a lot more interesting. Sometimes this causes the viewer to look at the object/prop itself and takes the focus off the person.

This photo is a example of background simplified because the viewer automatically focuses on the flower itself and nothing in the background.  The blurred background is what makes the background simplified and not included.  If the background was included, the viewer's focus would not just be on the flower alone.  I really love this photo because of the bright orange color.  It causes the object to stand out even more.

Compositional Strategies

This photo is an example of Rule of Thirds because Jack is not directly in the center of the photo.  I like this photo because of it's simplicity.  I also like this because it's unique and is different from all of the other photos taken.
